VHF Records Day 2020 … or as a record resisted again
We traditionally go to the Day of VHF Records from Čerťaže, it was no different this year either…
We traditionally go to the Day of VHF Records from Čerťaže. Táto VKV sezóna je z hľadiska Majstrovstiev SR viacmenej stratená a tak sme si žiadne extra veľké ciele pred závodom ani nedávali. Jeden ale predsa len sme v kútiku duše snívali, that he could succeed, and to break our 2m record of the year 2018, which makes 108.281 points.
The setup has been the same for two 8-element twins for several years, one YU7EF and the other DK7ZB and we switch them as needed. The summer weather demonstrated for the weekend and this was confirmed, not a drop fell on us, all the rain and storms went around us.
We met a large number of nine on the hill. Once two, a tent was set up and then two separate lots were set up to build the antennas, which also went pretty fast. Ani s PSV tentokrát neboli žiadne problémy a o jednej sme viac-menej mohli začať kontest. But it didn't start until four o'clock, so we managed to grill it and Cyro classically cooked its famous goulash..

Our team was strengthened by Milan OM6SZ, who brought some news and so the table was immediately filled, the new chat program was also a great help, which we used during the race. After erecting the antennas, it started to be connected and tested, and the first problem appeared, and it was immediately serious, literally existential. The central office was on strike. A few times it looked like that, that we eat goulash and go home. But that would be a fiasco. But the guys put their heads together, they dismantled the headquarters, they found the problem, provizórne opravili a mohlo sa predsa len kontestovať. Despite this, the central office was somehow strange this time. He will probably go for a checkup.

Christián and I started the race. Here we get used to having a long line from the south, Serbs or Hungarians and on challenge. I don't know what happened, but this time we were kind of worried at the beginning and a few times we had to go look for stations, for there was no one to do. Over time, our headset literally fell apart, so we put on a classic moth, but who didn't bother anyone at all. Over time, we returned to the classic score. The elevation did not disappoint again and slowly but surely we climbed to an average of 300km / qso, which we always have here. OK stations did not disappoint either, about which we did not even know for the first 4 hours, although one antenna still went OK / DL. They had their own world and we our own, mainly that the connections were constantly increasing.

We left the SSB at 11 pm and the telegraphers came to the fore. It was possible from the beginning, but later almost as always the score dropped, classic. At half the night we had only 175qso which did not look like a record, since we needed about 320-330qso for the record.

It is usually a big slowdown on Sundays. This has been confirmed in part now, but since it didn't work on SSB, we have now devoted more time to CW. Again, it started around 10-11h, but the recalculations still showed, that it will definitely not be a record this time. Nevertheless, we continued and fought more or less for ourselves, whether we can do it or not. At lunch we had about 260qso and the pace was so weak, that we judged, that even the 100,000 b will be a miracle. Several stations from countries such as Switzerland, Ukraine or Poland, which we normally do, we didn't hear at all this time and that was the new supply cable in the other direction in operation. Whatever. As the race slowly drew to a close, we dropped the first direction two hours earlier and finished the rest with only the DK7ZB twin, which is easier to fold. We had some 280qso and as a goal we set ourselves the goal of making at least 300qso, if not 100.000. But as? Despite it being September, it was quite hot inside the tent, currently Milan shows 32.2 ° C 🙂

No one responded to the challenges of either SSB or CW. Few people have reacted to the sketches in a similar way. However, it is interesting, that the one who answered, we almost always made the connection in the end. Škoda, their guess. In the end, we hit 297qso, in the last half hour only 2qso, poverty. The end of the race is like that once again. Overall, we ended up with a score of just over 97.000. The ODX race became the Greece SX2B, which we did SSB on Sunday morning at 8am, we have neither heard nor tried anything longer. It appears, that 850-890km is the maximum from this elevation.

Nevertheless, that we didn't give either 300qso or 100.000 satisfaction prevailed after the race. We solved the initial problems and during the race there were no major problems with anything. The weather was nice, goulash and chickens ate and so our record of the year 2018 still resists. The question is, that until.
